Northwoods Girls Golf (NWGG) recently presented a check in the amount of $3,500 to the Rhinelander High School for its first girls’ golf team. The new girls’ golf team began this past August and just completed its first season. Rhinelander’s program offers a great new opportunity for the girls in the area to get involved in golf – a sport that’s now officially part of their athletic options here in the Northwoods.
The Northwoods Girls Golf (NWGG) started in 2005 with a group of women golfers hosting a tournament in Eagle River. By August 2010, the Northwoods Girls Golf Inc was formed as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with a mission of promoting interest in girls’ golf at the youth level, middle school, high school, and college levels in northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The organization has contributed over $40,000 in the past 20 years to girls playing golf so supporting the Rhinelander Girls Golf program get started aligns with NWGG’s mission.
Golf is a life-long sport that builds leadership, encourages lifelong fitness and increases networking possibilities. Givinggirls access to equipment, mentorship, and opportunities that might otherwise have been out of reach are now becoming a reality. And we are starting to change the narrative – not just for the girls who swing the clubs today, but for those who will follow in their footsteps tomorrow.
