Gene Shepard’s bell is back home!
The Rhinelander High School football reclaimed the historic bell trophy in commanding fashion Friday night, defeating the Antigo Red Robins 54-8 at Mike Webster Stadium. Seven different players scored touchdowns for Rhinelander. Rowan Wiczek led the scoring with a touchdown reception and a 99-yard interception return. Cyrus Leisure, Ben Olson, Abe Gretzinger, Trenton Smits, Austin Sparling and Sam Zwaard each added rushing touchdowns.
Antigo forced a fumble deep in Red Robins territory on Rhinelander’s opening possession, but the Hodags responded by scoring 35 points in the first half. The margin triggered a running clock for the entire second half.
The Red Robins scored late in the fourth quarter against Rhinelander’s second-string defense.
Rhinelander travels to Mosinee on Friday.
