Hodag Highlights: Swimming

The Hodags took home the second-place trophy on Friday, Feb. 21, at the state swim meet at Waukesha South. McFarland won with 283 points, winning eight of the 11 swimming events. Rhinelander placed second with 235 points, 12 ahead of third-place Whitefish Bay. The highest individual place for the Hodags was Mathias Fugle in third place in the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Hodags placed second. Results for the Hodags are as follows: 200-yard medley relay fourth, 200-yard freestyle Samson Shinners sixth, 200-yard IM Dolan O’Malley sixth, Dean Gillingham seventh, 50-yard freestyle Charlie Antonuk 13th, 100-yard freestyle Mathias Fugle third, Samson Shinners seventh, 200-yard freestyle relay second, 100-yard backstroke Dolan O’Malley fourth, Judson O’Malley 11th, 100-yard breaststroke Shawn Denis seventh, Dean Gillingham eighth, and the 400-yard freestyle relay fourth. The swim team has won the last seven conference and sectional meets and finished first at state in 2023 and second in 2024.
