Posted

The Rhinelander High School girls swim team capped off their conference dual meet season in impressive fashion Thursday, overwhelming Merrill 126-41 in their final home meet before next week’s conference championship.
The Hodags claimed victory in 10 of 11 events, with the 100-yard butterfly providing Merrill’s only win of the evening.
Juniors Vivian Lamers and Ella Heck each captured four event victories to lead Rhinelander’s dominant performance. Lamers won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke while also swimming legs on the winning 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams. Heck swept the sprint freestyle events, taking first in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races, and contributed to victories in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Senior Emma Houg added two individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, and joined the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Lola Beach claimed the 500-yard freestyle to round out Rhinelander’s individual champions.
The Hodags’ depth was evident as they swept the top three spots in two events: the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.
Rhinelander now sets its sights on the Great Northern Conference championship meet, scheduled for Friday at the Rice Lake Natatorium. Ladysmith will serve as the host for the conference finale.
