Hodag Highlights: Soccer team falls to Northland Pines in regular season finale

Posted

The Rhinelander High School boys soccer team closed out their regular season last Tuesday night with a 2-0 home loss to Northland Pines, despite entering the match with improved form. The Hodags had been trending upward in recent weeks, posting three ties and a victory in their previous four contests. However, they were unable to carry that momentum against the Eagles on a rainy evening.
Light rainfall fell throughout the match but did not significantly impact play. Northland Pines established control early, scoring once in each half while outshooting Rhinelander over the course of the game to secure the two-goal victory.
Despite the setback, the Hodags have earned the eighth seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. Rhinelander will host ninth-seeded Medford on Tuesday in the first round of playoff action. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Lakeland on the road Thursday.
The playoff berth gives Rhinelander an opportunity to extend their season and build on the positive momentum they had established heading into the postseason.
