Hodag Highlights: Rhinelander boys take two more

Posted

The Rhinelander High School boys basketball team went 2-0 last week with a commanding home victory over Wisconsin Rapids and a hard-fought road win at Northland Pines.
On Tuesday, the Hodags welcomed Wisconsin Rapids to their home court in what became a showcase for senior sharpshooter Devon Feck. The Raiders jumped out to an early lead, and the first half featured several lead changes before Rhinelander put together a decisive run to take a 31-22 advantage into halftime. Feck caught fire from beyond the arc, draining seven three-pointers on his way to a game-high 28 points. The Hodags maintained their momentum in the second half, controlling the tempo and pulling away for a 63-44 victory.
Friday night brought a different challenge as Rhinelander traveled to Northland Pines for the second game of a doubleheader. The contest carried extra significance with milestone markers on the line—Feck entered needing 27 points to reach 1,000 career points, while Pines senior Mylo Albrecht needed 19 to hit the same mark.
The game turned into a defensive slugfest. Rhinelander built a 26-18 halftime lead, and while they stretched the advantage to 10 points in the second half, Northland Pines refused to go away, battling back to within two points on multiple occasions.
The Hodags held firm down the stretch, securing a 47-40 victory. Feck added 19 points, leaving him eight points shy of 1,000, while Albrecht scored 18, falling one point short of his milestone. Rowan Wiczek provided valuable support with 10 points in the win. Rhinelander will look to continue their winning streak when they travel to Tomahawk on Tuesday for a doubleheader, with the boys game tipping off at 6 p.m.
