Hodag Highlights: Plamann delivers twice in extras as Hodags top Tomahawk; Lakeland takes rematch 10-5

Posted

Freshman Ruby Plamann came through in the clutch not once but twice on Monday April 20, delivering walk-off and tying doubles to lift the Rhinelander Hodags past Tomahawk in 10 innings at home.
With the Hodags trailing heading into the bottom of the seventh and the tying run on base, Plamann stepped to the plate and laced a double to knot the score and force extra innings. Three innings later, Plamann found herself in the same situation — at-bat with the winning run on base — and delivered again, stroking another double to end the game and send Rhinelander fans home happy.
Aleece Johnson pitched all 10 innings to earn the complete-game victory.
Lakeland came to Rhinelander on Thursday looking for payback after the Hodags won the teams’ first meeting earlier this season, and the Thunderbirds got it, handing Rhinelander a 10-5 defeat. Lakeland jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it despite a Rhinelander rally. Kalyn Miller provided the Hodags’ offensive highlight, going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Thunderbirds’ advantage. Johnson took the loss in the circle for Rhinelander.
