The Rhinelander High School boys tennis team made a statement in their season opener Thursday, defeating D.C. Everest 6-1 at the Hodag Dome behind a dominant performance across the lineup.
The Hodags swept all four singles matches, with wins from Brayden Barnhill, Aiden Lueder, Calvin Loomis and Asher Rivord. In doubles play, Rhinelander took two of three matches to secure the team victory. At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Danek Koniar and freshman Henry Bonardelli handled their opponents in straight sets. At No. 2 doubles, Sam Loomis and Kellen O’Malley faced a tighter battle, but came through in the match tiebreaker, winning 10-5 to clinch the point.
The Hodags’ only blemish on the day came at No. 3 doubles, where D.C. Everest claimed the lone point of the match for the visitors.
