Rhinelander High School senior Emma Houg has been named Great Northern Conference swimmer of the year, as voted on by conference coaches following her dominant performance at the conference meet in Rice Lake last weekend.
Houg’s selection came after she claimed individual conference titles in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 100-yard backstroke. Her backstroke time was the fastest recorded in the conference this season, cementing her status as the league’s premier swimmer in the event.
The senior’s contributions extended beyond her individual victory, as she also helped power the Hodags’ 200-yard freestyle relay team to a first-place finish. Houg added a third-place finish as part of Rhinelander’s 200-yard medley relay team.
In total, Houg scored 46 points for the Hodags at the conference meet, providing a significant boost to the team’s overall performance.
With the conference meet now complete, Houg and her Rhinelander teammates are preparing for the sectional meet Nov. 8 in Rice Lake. Swimmers who qualify at sectionals will advance to the WIAA Girls Fall Swimming & Diving Championship, scheduled for November 14-15 at the Waukesha South Natatorium.
