The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team showcased its depth and talent Tuesday night, Jan. 6, at the YMCA of the Northwoods, posting a decisive 120.2-107.05 victory over Ashland in front of a home crowd.
The Hodags swept the team competitions across all four events, demonstrating the balanced lineup that has defined their season. Despite the team dominance, it was Ashland’s Leanna Lipske who stole individual honors, capturing both the balance beam title and the all-around championship.
Lipske edged Rhinelander’s Emeline Hintz in a tight all-around battle, 32.475-32.225, showcasing the kind of individual excellence that can emerge even in a lopsided team competition.
Hintz led the Hodag charge with a victory on floor exercise while adding runner-up finishes on bars and beam, plus a third-place showing on vault. Her consistent performance across all four events kept her in contention for the all-around title throughout the evening.
Alexis Smith topped the vault competition for Rhinelander and placed second on floor, while Addison Fish claimed the bars title and rounded out the top three in the all-around standings.
The Hodags now hit the road for their next four competitions before returning home for their final meet of the season on Feb. 12. The extended road stretch will test the team’s ability to maintain its momentum away from the friendly confines of the YMCA of the Northwoods.
