Hodag Highlights: Girls basketball

Posted
The Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) Panthers girls basketball team visited the Rhinelander gym Tuesday, Feb. 4, to take on the Hodags, who again were without the services of their point guard Aubryn Clark due to a back injury. SPASH had a height advantage as they have six 5’10” or taller girls, and the Hodags have one in sophomore Lexi Beran. The Panthers used their height and pressure defense to jump out to an early lead that was never in jeopardy in the game. The Panther coach substituted freely in the second half to give their bench a chance to play, and it gave the Hodags a chance to play longer without going to run time. The Panthers led at the half 30-15 and only outscored the Hodags in the second 24-23 to make the final score 38-54 in favor of the Panthers. Vivian Lamers led the way for the Hodags with 12 points, the only Hodag in double figures. On Friday, Feb. 7, the girls defeated conference foe Tomahawk 52-32 on Senior Night.
