Posted

The Rhinelander High School football team’s season came to an end Friday night with a 35-7 loss to top-seeded Madison Edgewood in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.
The Hodags, who entered the postseason as the last team to qualify for the playoff bracket, faced an uphill battle against the Crusaders from the opening kickoff. Edgewood built a 21-0 halftime lead and extended their advantage to 35-0 after three quarters.
Rhinelander finally broke through in the fourth quarter when quarterback Abe Gretzinger connected with Evan Shoeder on a 17-yard touchdown pass to put the Hodags on the scoreboard and set the final margin.
Senior Ben Olson led the ground game with 43 rushing yards, while junior Rowan Wiczek was a bright spot in the passing attack, hauling in nine receptions for 90 yards.
The loss concludes Rhinelander’s season with a 3-7 record. The Hodags will now turn their attention to the offseason as they look to build toward the 2026 campaign.
