On Thursday May 29, the Hodag baseball team began regional tournament play against Amery at home. The team was coming off a stretch of games where they experienced significant highs and lows. On May 22, Hodag hurler Conner Rappley threw a perfect game in an 8-0 victory over Medford. A day later, the team suffered a 12-0 loss to Marathon at home. On Friday, May 27, the Hodags returned to their winning ways, defeating Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 6-0.
Rappley was back on the mound for the regional kickoff against Amery.
After walking the first batter, Rappley found his groove and the defense around him stiffened.
He reached his pitch limit in the 9th inning after getting the first 2 outs. Dylan Vanderbunt came on in relief and recorded the third out to preserve a 5-0 shutout.
The Hodags were scheduled to travel to St. Croix Falls Tuesday for their next playoff contest. The results of that game were not available when this edition went to press.
