One killed, one injured in Oneida County two-vehicle crash

UPDATE: Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as Marisa Hagemann, 45, of Manitowish Waters.
HAZELHURST – A head-on collision this morning on U.S. 51 in the town of Hazelhurst has left one driver dead and sent the other to the hospital.
Oneida County Chief Deputy Terri Hook reported that just after 6 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of the crash near South Blue Lake Road. Extrication equipment was needed to free the two drivers from their vehicles. Helicopters were also dispatched due to the apparent injuries of those involved.
U.S. 51 was closed approximately 6:25 a.m. while the Wisconsin State Patrol conducted a crash reconstruction. Both lanes were reopened around 9:30 a.m.
Hook stated that witnesses on the scene said the southbound vehicle crossed over the centerline and the northbound vehicle could not avoid the crash.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported by helicopter but died upon arrival at the medical facility. The other driver was also transported by helicopter to a medical facility.
The names of the drivers have not been released.
