YMCA of the Northwoods transitions to ‘child care only’ facility temporarily

Beginning Tuesday, March 17, Rhinelander’s YMCA of the Northwoods is temporarily suspending group exercise classes, activities, leagues, wellness, swim lessons and other regular programming.
“Because of the evolving rules governing the coronavirus pandemic, the impact of school closures, and the growing demand on families and medical professionals, we are transitioning our YMCA to support families, doctors, nurses, technicians, and medical staff by caring for their children during this crisis,” said Ryan Zietlow, CEO.
In a press release issued Monday afternoon, Zietlow stated that the Y wants to make sure families don’t have to worry that their children are being cared for during the “difficult time.”
The Y will transition its focus on offering school-days-out childcare and early learning care for Y families and critical service workers. That will include full day care (Children’s Learning Center) as scheduled and programming for school-age children. Zietlow noted that pre-registration is required for the school-age programming and space is limited.
Registration for the week of March 23 and 30 will begin at noon Tuesday, March 18.
“The Y is so much more than fitness centers and gyms, pools and locker rooms; we are a community. Dedicated to strengthening (and protecting) the spirits, minds and bodies of our friends and communities,” said Zietlow.
