Local Special Olympians fare well at competition
The School District of Rhinelander’s Special Olympics team participated in the 2019 Regional Bowling Meet at Dale’s Weston Lanes in Wausau Oct. 20. More than 500 athletes from 21 different agencies were represented that day.
The Knights of Columbus participated in the Opening Ceremonies and bowled the first ball to kick off the competition.
Twelve athletes from the School District of Rhinelander competed in singles bowling. Each athlete bowled three games against athletes with similar ages and ability levels as they were grouped into divisions by their bowling handicaps. Of the 12 athletes that competed, eight qualified to bowl at the state bowling tournament by earning first, second or third places in their division.
The state competition will be Nov. 9 at Dale’s Weston Lanes. Awards were given to Drake Winters, sixth place; Maggie Lehman and Nevaeh Johnson, fifth place; Marshall Barlowski, fourth place; Stephen Herrann, Whitley Divine, Maria Dornfeld and Hannah Umland, third place; Spencer Smith and Jenna May Enders, second place; and Allison Brunette and Paige Appling, first place.
