GIRLS HOCKEY: Northern Edge routs Raiders, 8-2

The Northern Edge girls hockey team scored half of its goals in the second period Thursday en route to an 8-2 Great Northern Conference victory over Medford at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.
The Edge’s Payton Bunnell tallied two second-period goals 56 seconds apart to double the team’s lead to 4-0.
A goal from Kourtney Carrico gave the Rhinelander/Antigo co-op a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Edge’s Madi Losch tallied two goals in the game, while Ellen Padgett, Evelyn LeVeque and Jade Forster also scored. Padgett and Lauren Kefalinos each had three assists.
Emily Schafer scored both of Medford’s goals.
The Edge outshot Medford, 36-19. Alicia Turunen made 17 saves to record the win in net.
The Edge, which swept its season series with the Raiders, improved its record to 3-2-0-1 in the GNC and 7-10-1 overall going into Saturday afternoon’s game against the Lakeshore Lightning co-op in Antigo.
