Rhinelander Salvation Army exceeds fundraising goal
For the Star Journal
Rhinelander Salvation Army organizers say they are incredibly grateful to the community for the support shown this past Bell Ringing season.
Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, and many generous donations, the final total raised this past holiday season is $39,257.01.
“Our goal was $30,000, and we are overwhelmed by the community’s generosity,” said Kim Swisher, 2015 Kettle Campaign Coordinator. “We struggled last year to raise $25,000, and this year the community really stepped up and showed their support of the Salvation Army’s efforts.”
“We see the need for emergency assistance continually growing, and exceeding our goal will allow us to help our neighbors in their time of need,” Swisher continued.
For every $1 donated, $.86 will stay in Rhinelander. The remaining $.14 supports state and national Salvation Army efforts.
Through Rhinelander ACES (Area Churches for Emergency Services), contributions are distributed in an efficient and effective manner. Eight churches comprise ACES, and work with the Rhinelander Salvation Army to have an unified effort to serve our community. ACES includes Calvary Baptist, First Congregational UCC, First United Methodist, Grace Foursquare, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nativity of Our Lord, North Country Vineyard Church and Trinity Lutheran.
The Rhinelander Salvation Army serves area residents by providing emergency assistance with housing, transportation and medical needs. Housing services include temporary shelter, and emergency utility and rent assistance. Transportation services include gas cards or assistance with repairs. Medical assistance frequently includes help with life-saving prescription medications.
“We wish to extend our sincere and grateful appreciation to the many Bell Ringers, individuals and businesses who gave generously of their time, energy and donations,” Swisher said. “We are humbled by the support the community has shown, and are very thankful.”
