Rhinelander man charged with attempted homicide
A Rhinelander man was charged Wednesday with attempted first degree intentional homicide after allegedly shooting his uncle in the abdomen Monday night.
Marcus L. Alsteens, 23, made his initial appearance in Oneida County Circuit Court Thursday and was charged with first degree attempted intentional homicide, aggravated battery-intend to cause great bodily harm, recklessly endanger safety by use of a dangerous weapon, and injury to another by negligent use of dangerous weapon. He was held on a $50,000 cash bond.
Alsteens allegedly shot his uncle, Justin Alsteens, 49, in the abdomen with a rifle following an argument Monday night at the 645 Mason Street residence where they both lived. Marcus Alsteens allegedly fled the scene and was arrested about a half an hour later in Eagle River.
Two other people were in the home at the time of the shooting but remained unharmed.
Justin Alsteens remains unconscious and in critical condition in a Marshfield hospital according to reports.
Marcus Alsteens will appear in court Aug. 19 for an adjourned initial appearance.
