Letter: Reader angered about school game by Bev Everson
Editor:
I am writing in regard to an article printed in your paper dated April 21, 2013, written by a young man named Shawn Crofoot, who is a student at NCSS. The article was named “The Werewolf Game.”
I was disgusted, shocked and downright angered that a game such as this is being played in our schools. This game was advised by Mr. Santy. Shawn said “It is an extraordinarily fun game” in which there are three werewolves and other characters whose job is to slowly kill off one player each night. “Cupid” makes two players become lovers. The “hunter” can kill off one player if they are killed in the daytime. Townspeople are used to execute someone. The game is intertwined with deception to hide their role from other players.
Now, what is wrong with this? I’ll tell you – look at what’s happening in our world! Do you see a pattern in this game? Look at some of the key words: “kill,” “execute,” “deception.” All wrapped up in the name of fun and enjoyment.
This game is nothing but evil and should outrage the general public. Our children are being fed garbage and taught violence, and we sit back and wonder why the Boston bombing happened and shootings in schools, etc. This kind of garbage listed as “programs” has to stop.
Our children are a gift from God to be cared for and nurtured into Godly values with words like “love,” “gentleness,” “peace,” “patience,” “kindness,” etc. There are some very good youth organizations and programs in the Rhinelander area to teach much better values to our children than useless games such as this.
Bev Everson, Rhinelander
