Know Your Stats event
Howard Young Medical Center, Marshfield Clinic and NFL Hall of Fame kicker Jan Stenerud are teaming up to encourage men to “Know Your Stats About Prostate Cancer®,” the second-leading cause of cancer death for American men.
The free event will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Thirsty Whale, 428 Park St., Minocqua. Appetizers will be provided.
Stenerud will be the featured speaker and will be available for autographs and photographs at the conclusion of the event. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1967 to 1979, the Green Bay Packers from 1980 to 1983 and the Minnesota Vikings from 1984 to 1985. He and the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV when they defeated the Vikings 23-7. Stenerud was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1991.
Marshfield Clinic urological surgeon Matt Thomas, MD, will discuss the importance of prostate health, the impact of prostate cancer on American men and the range of available treatment options.
Know Your Stats is a national prostate cancer awareness campaign from the American Urological Association (AUA) Foundation and the NFL. Now in its fourth year, the campaign is bringing the message to fans across the country, educating men and their loved ones about the importance of prostate health.
One in every six American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, and African American men are more likely to die from the disease. An estimated 4,670 men in Wisconsin were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010.
