Marshfield Clinic, Ministry Health Care support Minocqua’s ‘No Frills Marathon’
Title sponsors Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care have each donated $1,000 to support the inaugural No Frills Marathon on Sept. 2 in Minocqua.
The race, held on the Bearskin Trail, will accommodate both first-time marathoners as well as veteran runners trying to improve their race times or qualify for the Boston Marathon, said Blain Nyberg, a Marshfield Clinic Pharmacy manager and the race director.
“We are keeping it simple this year to keep it affordable, because at this marathon it’s all about the race,” he said.
The race begins at 7 a.m. at Nokomis Community Park on Highway L (Old Highway 51), 20 miles south of Minocqua in the town of Nokomis. The course follows the Bearskin Trail and finishes at the trailhead behind the Minocqua post office.
“With the extremely hot weather the nation had this summer, many marathon runners found it difficult to get qualifying times, or even complete some of the marathons they normally did to qualify for Boston,” Nyberg said. “This new event in Minocqua gives them another option, so we hope it will be a very successful race for everyone.”
The cost for one runner is $35 through Aug. 31. Register online at minocquanofrillsmarathon.com or tandhtiming.com. Runners also can register from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 1, at the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce, or from 6 to 7 a.m., Sept. 2, at the race registration/bib pick-up table at Nokomis Community Park.
