Final hydrant flushing notice, June 28
The City of Rhinelander Water Utility will be flushing fire hydrants in this area on Thursday, June 28:
– Hydrants on Balsam Street north between Maple Street and River Street. Streets included are Crescent, Hemlock, Spruce, Birch, Phillip, Lynne, Gardner, Vaughn, Douglass, Dorothy, Elizabeth, Lois, Sumac, Cranberry, Tracy and Riverglen.
Flushing will begin at 8 a.m. and finish around 2 p.m. Hydrants will be flushed Monday through Thursday. This is the final day of hydrant flushing for 2012.
During flushing you may experience a discoloration of the water in your home or business. Before doing any laundry or other projects, make sure the tap water is running clear.
The city flushes hydrants to clean out iron deposits in the water lines, to verify the hydrants are working properly and to assure continued high quality drinking water. The utility recommends users run the tap water for five or 10 minutes to purge their systems of sediment and minimize discoloration.
