GIRLS BASKETBALL
Soon-to-be conference foe the Merrill Bluejays visited the Miazga gym for a game with the Hodags girls basketball team. Merrill scored the first points of the game on a 3-point shot but that lead would be short lived. The Hodags, with their pressure defense and effective shooting, took the lead shortly after and never gave it up. The Hodags went to the locker room at halftime leading 39-22. In the second half the Hodags continued the pressure, scoring on a few steals and hitting shots from the outside. Final score Rhinelander 73, Merrill 45.
Leading the way for the Hodags were Lily Treder, who made five 3-point shots and scored 19, along with Aubryn Clark who also scored 19. Leah Jamison scored 12 points on four 3-pointers.

WRESTLING
The Hodag Dome was the site of the Hodag Scramble wrestling meet Dec. 21 with 26 teams in attendance. The Hodags had one female wrestler, junior Mya Swanson, who placed third in her bracket going 3-2 on the day.
The boys had 12 wrestlers, but not a full slate, as a couple members of the team had been ill during the week. The top point earner for the day was senior Owen Kurtz at 215 lbs. Kurtz went 4-1 for the tournament and placed second. Logan Schwinger wrestled at 175 lbs. and placed fourth with a 3-2 record. In sixth place at 150 lbs with a 3-2 record was Aiden Ostermann.
Dec. 28-29 the Hodags were in River Falls for a tournament.
ALUMNI SWIM MEET
The annual alumni swim meet took place on Friday Dec. 22. The current varsity boys team swam in all 10 events as a final workout before the Christmas break. Some events for alums were shortened to 25 yards and the 400 yard freestyle for the alums was split between eight swimmers. Several of the 2023 grads participated and showed they could still swim with some speed.
