Leo Losch’s shot gets by the Antigo goalie and gives the Hodags the regional win.
A regional hockey game was played Thursday night at the RIA with the winner advancing to the sectional semi-final against Mosinee in Mosinee Feb. 21.
The Hodags played Antigo close for the first period, with no scoring and no penalties. Both teams had shots on goal with their respective goalies making all the saves. In the second period Antigo scored first with 7:47 left in the period. The Hodags got the equalizer with 3:32 left in the period when Gavin Denis scored unassisted on a breakaway. Antigo received a tripping penalty call in the third giving the Hodags a 5-on-4 chance but could not take advantage of it.
With just over a minute left in regulation the Hodags were penalized for having too many men on the ice. The remaining 53 seconds of the penalty was served in the sudden death overtime. Antigo didn’t take advantage of their extra man and both teams were at full strength for the remainder of OT.
Sam Schneider ended the tie when he skated into the Antigo zone and made a pass to Leo Losch who buried the shot into the net for the 2-1 win and a chance to play Mosinee in the sectional semi-final.
