RHINELANDER – The Great Northern Conference hockey tournament began Tuesday with Medford coming to Rhinelander. The Hodags are the No. 2 seed and the Medford Raiders are No. 7. The Hodags had faced the Raiders twice already this season and the total score was 23-3 in those two meetings.

It was more of the same as the Hodags scored four in the first period and then went on to defeat the Raiders 12-1, to earn a semifinal game at home against Mosinee next Tuesday.

Thursday night the Hodags hosted the Wausau East-Merrill co-op. The Hodags faced the Blue Jacks in a scrimmage at the beginning of the season and dominated at Merrill. The Hodags dominated again scoring four in both the first and second periods and added two more in the third for the 10-0 win with Caleb Shefveland earning the shutout in goal saving all nine shots on goal. The Hodags had 68 shots on goal.

Leo Losch led the Hodags in goals with four and on senior night Cal Laggis scored two goals to go along with four assists. BOB MAINHARDT PHOTOS.
