Public invited to see new OCHS in December
Star Journal Report
The Oneida County Humane Society will welcome the community to view its newly renovated facility during regular hours the month of December. Expansion plans were announced two years ago when the organization received a couple of unexpected cash awards. Work began last spring.
The project includes a larger lobby, wellness rooms and separate entrances for dogs and cats, among other changes. Work came in on budget, according to facility director Bria Swarthout, which was just under $600,000.
The building was originally constructed at its current location on north Stevens Street in 1983, and saw an addition built in 2000-01. In addition to the upgrades for the animals will be a new energy-efficient heating and air conditioning unit.
During the month of December, staff will be available to answer questions about the facility and the services it provides. Open hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, noon to 3 p.m.
