Packers grant area youth the game of flag football

Rhinelander area youth will have the opportunity to play flag football this fall, thanks to a grand from the Green Bay Packers.

Earlier this month the YMCA of the Northwoods was awarded a $2,000 grant to purchase equipment for a new league. Flag football allows children to begin learning the game of football without the high risk of injury. More importantly, according to a press release, the Y focuses on developing the youth in our community through teamwork, self-confidence and positive role models.

Games and practices are anticipated to be on Saturday mornings in Fall 2018. The complete schedule and details for the league will be released in late July. The Y will be working with Rhinelander High School Football coaches and players to help coach the league, but parents and other volunteers will be needed for each team.

For more information on YMCA flag football or to express coaching interest please call Matt Steingraber at 715-362-9622 ext. 120 or email msteingraber@ymcanw.org.
