BOYS BASKETBALL: Hodags win GNC opener over Thunderbirds, 80-43

STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School varsity boys basketball team jumped out to an 11-point halftime lead and then expanded on that lead in the second half Friday when the Hodags won their Great Northern Conference opener at home over Lakeland Union High School, 80-43.

RHS had three players score in double figures led by Junior Howard with 28 points, which included five 3-pointers.Brad Comer added 17 points with three 3-pointers. Owen White registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hodags shot 30-62 (48.4 percent) from the field overall, 10-20 (50 percent) from 3-point range and 10-13 (76.9 percent) from the free-throw line.

The win improved RHS’s overall season record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the GNC going into Friday’s conference game at Northland Pines.
