GIRLS SWIMMING: Hodags top Wausau West Triangular
RHS 1st in 8 of 11 events

The Rhinelander High School girls swimming team placed first in eight of the 11 events and added four runner-up finishes Monday when the Hodags won a triangular meet hosted by Wausau West.
RHS topped the team standings at 171 points, followed by Lakeland Union High School with 113 and Wausau West with 103. Points were awarded in each event to the top-eight individuals and top-five relays with each team allowed to score with its top-three individuals and top-two relays.
The Hodags had two swimmers win a pair of individual events with freshman Makenna Winnicki placing first in both the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 24.99 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:05.47) and junior Grace Heck topping the 50 freestyle (27.14) and 100 freestyle (1:00.57).
RHS’s other two individual winners included sophomore Marisa McGuire in the 200 freestyle (2:14.67) and freshman Lisa Kennedy in the 100 backstroke (1:05.12).
The Hodags won two of three relay events with senior Jenna Hawley, Kennedy, Winnicki and Heck in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.35) and McGuire, Heck, Kennedy and Winnicki in the 400 freestyle (4:03.8).
RHS’s 200 freestyle relay, comprised of McGuire, Hawley and seniors Taylor Macak and Carly Seidl, finished runner-up in 1:50.88, two-tenths of a second behind LUHS’s winning time.
The Hodags also recorded runner-up finishes from Macak in the 100 butterfly (1:08.5), Kennedy in the 500 freestyle (6:08.28) and Hawley in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.95).
RHS added a trio of third-place finishes from Macak in the 200 freestyle (2:18.01), Hawley in the 50 freestyle (27.75) and junior Maddie Quinn in the 100 backstroke (1:12.78).
The Hodags, who have a scrimmage Thursday at Merrill, will host their first Great Northern Conference dual meet of the season Aug. 31 against LUHS.
