STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School baseball team wrapped league play Tuesday with a 10-0 home victory in five innings over Great Northern Conference opponent Northland Pines.

The game was scoreless after three innings before the Hodags recorded all 10 of their runs in the bottom of the fourth.

RHS sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth inning when the Hodags also tallied six of their seven hits. Brandon Hess tallied two singles that inning and drove in two runs, while Kurt Zuiker tripled with 3 RBI, Easton Senoraske tripled with 2 RBI, Josh Randolph singled with an RBI and Alec Modrow drove in a run on a bunt single.

The only other hit for Hodags came in the first inning when Jacob DeMeyer doubled.

Zach Ciran, Alex Brendemihl and Bryce Lederer each singled for the Eagles.

Hess pitched all five innings and recorded the shutout victory, allowing three hits with two walks while striking out six.

Northland Pines starting pitcher George Jackson worked 3 2/3 innings and picked up the loss, giving up 10 earned runs on six hits with eight walks while striking out one. Lederer relieved Jackson and gave up a hit and a walk.

The Hodags, who finished 8-4 in the GNC for third place in league play, open WIAA Division 1 Regional play at 5 p.m. next Tuesday as a No. 8 seed when they host No. 9-seeded D.C. Everest at Hodag Park.
