STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Rhinelander High School boys golf team wrapped up the regular season Friday by placing first at the Great Northern Conference tournament it hosted at the Northwood Golf Course.

The Hodags, who enter Tuesday’s WIAA Division 1 regional at the Stevens Point Country Club having won their last three tournaments, topped Friday’s seven-team GNC meet with a team score of 344, followed by Medford (353), Lakeland (359), Antigo (363), Tomahawk (382), Northland Pines (393) and Mosinee (422).

All four RHS golfers whose score counted toward the team total finished with 88 or fewer strokes for 18 holes. Alex Gaber and Nick Twite both carded an 85, four strokes behind the top individual score of Medford’s Klayton Kree, while Logan Johnson finished at 86 and Matt Reinthaler had an 88. The Hodags’ other golfer, Zach Olds, ended up with a 97.

In the overall season standings, RHS finished third in conference play behind league champion Medford and runner-up Antigo.

Zachary Olds hits a chip shot onto the green.
