Hodag baseball team splits at Rice Lake

The Rhinelander High School baseball team played two games both decided pair of runs Saturday, losing the first and winning the second at Rice Lake.

The Hodags weren’t able to score until the sixth inning when they lost the first game to the Warriors, 3-1.

RHS starting pitcher Brandon Reinthaler worked five-plus innings and recorded the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits with six walks while striking out three. Easton Senoraske finished the sixth inning and allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

The Warriors’ Logan Hile pitched all seven innings to record the win, allowing an earned run on seven hits with five walks while striking out two.

Tyler Blomdahl accounted for two of the Hodags’ hits with a pair of singles. Reinthaler, Brad Comer, Brad Quade, Alec Modrow and Brandon Hess also singled. Hess scored the only run on a sacrifice fly by Josh Randolph.

Mitch Kleusch tallied two of Rice Lake’s six hits.

RHS 9, RL 7

The Hodags jumped out to a five-run lead early in game two against Rice Lake before falling behind by a run and then scoring three times in the seventh inning for a 9-7 victory.

RHS starting pitcher Kurt Zuiker worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits with four walks while striking out two. Senoraske relieved Zuiker and recorded the victory, giving up two earned runs on two hits with a walk and a hit batter while striking out two.

Warriors starting pitcher Connor Horton lasted only 1 2/3 innings when he was charged for five earned runs on five hits with three walks and a hit batter. Austin Piecuch worked 1 1/3 innings in relief of Horton and gave up an unearned run on a hit with two walks while striking out one. Hunter Ashlin pitched the final four innings and took the loss, giving up three unearned runs on two hits with two walks and a hit batter while striking out five.

In the field, Rice Lake ended up committing four errors, compared to two for the Hodags.

At the plate, six of RHS’s eight hits went for extra bases. Jacob DeMeyer tripled with 2 RBI. Senoraske also tripled with an RBI. Comer doubled and singled with 2 RBI. Reinthaler tallied two doubles with an RBI. Quade doubled with 2 RBI. Tait Spencer singled with an RBI.

Two of Rice Lake’s eight hits went for extra bases with Ashlin and Piecuch each doubling. Ashlin also singled to end up as the Warriors’ only player with more than one hit.
