Evelyn Rose Perry, age 92, of Rhinelander, died December 8, 2015 at Ministry-St. Mary’s Hospital, in Rhinelander. Evie was born September 2, 1923 in Rhinelander to William and Nora (Donothan) Peterson. She attended schools here graduating from the Rhinelander High School in 1941. Shortly thereafter she married Glenn Ward. Glenn was called to serve his country with the 82nd Div Paratroopers and was killed during WW II leaving Evie, a very young widow, with a very young daughter. She went to work at a couple of retail outlets in downtown Rhinelander during this time of her life, but devoted most of her efforts into raising her daughter. Later in life the Lord led Evie to Kenneth Perry and they were married on January 27, 1967. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage. Evie was always active, even in the last years of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a longtime member of the Rhinelander Country Club and a past Ladies Club Champion and Grandmothers Champion(numerous times). She also enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and bridge. She truly enjoyed the fellowship of her friends on the golf course and at the bridge table. She enjoyed beating them even more! She was competitive and everything had to be “just so” with Evie, but, boy, she loved her friends, her family and even more so, her Lord and Savior. She will be missed by many. Evie is survived by her daughter Judith (Bernard) Durkee Peter of Rhinelander; grandchildren, Glenn (Petra) Durkee, Holly (Robert) Nedden, Jennifer (Daniel) Dart and Dr. Russel l(Dr. Binu) Durkee, Andrew and Isaac; stepsons Michael and Jeff Perry; stepdaughters, Lisa, Debbie and Anita;eight great-grandchildren Caleb, Eli, Lily, Gabriel, Evelyn (her namesake), Jayden, Isaac and Andrew; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. In addition to her first husband Glenn, and her husband Kenneth who preceded her on December 31, 2010, Evie was also preceded in death by two sisters Marie Marquardt and Mae Pence and her brother Ernest Peterson. Funeral services for Evie will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ellen Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Carlson Funeral Home and from 9:30 AM, to just prior to the services, at the First United Methodist Church on Friday. Interment will follow in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Perry family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for Evie’s family.
