Leona “Lee” Zimmer, age 92 of Rhinelander, died Thursday, October 1, 2015. She was born on May 1, 1923, in Tomahawk to Cornelius and Mary (Debels) Voermans.

Lee was always a cheerful person and her positive attitude made her a joy to everyone that knew her. She loved working in her flower gardens in summer and doing her beautiful needle work in the winter. Lee was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s Club where she volunteered for many worthy causes. She was employed for many years in the office at WOBT Radio.

Lee is survived by her husband of 65 years, Werner Zimmer of Rhinelander and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Peter and Donald Voermans; and sisters, Marie Pophal, Madeline Schroeder, and Connie Rollman.

A funeral mass for Lee will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church – St. Mary’s Site with Father Mike McLain officiating. Visitation will be from 9 until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the Carlson Funeral Home in Rhinelander. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Harrison.
