Rhinelander school honored at the state capitol
Rhinelander’s Northwoods Community Elementary School was recognized this week during a ceremony at the state capitol in Madison. NCES was among 173 schools in the state to receive Wisconsin Title 1 School of Recognition honors. Prinicpal Wil Losch says the school’s recognition for ‘Beating the Odds’ is meaningful.
“It’s rooted in comparing the performance of our school against ourselves while still examining achievement scores in reading and math,” Losch explained. “Social scientists understand that there is a link between poverty and low academic achievement. However, the NCES community is breaking that link. We received this honor because a growing number of families that are successfully working hard to provide healthy home supports and because our teachers hold very high expectations of themselves.”
