The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public of a scam reported to our office. This scam involves receiving a text message on your phone stating “card limit approaching please provide card number and pin number limit would be increased.” These text messages are imitating being sent from a credit union banking institution.

The Sheriff’s Office has received two complaints regarding this type of scam. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the local credit unions to inform them of this scam. The credit unions indicated they would never contact their members through texting.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people not to give out any personal identification information when solicited in this manner. Citizens receiving these text messages should contact their banking institution and make them aware of this activity.
