Ripco Credit Union is hosting a free community shred event Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Ripco parking lot at 121 Sutliff Avenue in Rhinelander. Shredding will be provided onsite by Cintas Document Management Service, and drive-up service will be available. Ripco’s drive-through banking facility will also be open during that time, so participants are urged to navigate the parking lot with caution and follow all directional signage.

Since identity theft can happen to anyone at any time, Ripco wants to help local residents reduce their chance of being victims of ID theft. Individuals are invited to attend Ripco’s community shred event, where they can bring up to six boxes of no-longer-needed personal documents and files to be shredded.

Suggested items to shred are financial statements, cancelled checks, credit card statements and credit card pre-approval letters, payroll stubs, insurance forms, old tax returns, forms from doctor’s offices and other confidential papers. Three ring binders and electronic media will not be accepted for shredding at this event.

Although the service is free of charge, Ripco will accept monetary gifts, non-perishable food items and pet food at the event to benefit the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and the Oneida County Humane Society,
