Tree lighting ceremony returns to Stevensport Square

Posted

Downtown Rhinelander will kick off the holiday season on Saturday, November 29, with the return of the Rhinelander Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Families are invited to join Santa Claus and gather at 5 p.m. at the corner of Davenport and Stevens streets for treats and the countdown to the official lighting of the downtown tree, organizers said in a press release.
“Community partners are helping make the evening special,” the release states. “The Rhinelander High School Chorus will provide some music, the Oneida County Tavern League is donating hot chocolate and cups, and Trig’s is giving 1,000 cookies for attendees.”
“A beloved tradition is coming back,” said Aaron Schultz, owner of Big Daddy’s and coordinator of the festivities. “We do not have a Christmas parade, and in the past this event has helped residents and businesses feel the holiday spirit.”
The City of Rhinelander will decorate the tree, led by Steve Smith and the Rhinelander Street Department.

Schultz invites nonprofit groups and community organizations to get involved. “We would love to have caroling and other activities that bring holiday spirit to the event,” he said.
Big Daddy’s will also host a Guess the Number of Lights on the Tree contest. More details will be announced soon.
Community groups, choirs, and volunteers can contact Aaron Schultz at Big Daddy’s, 21 West Davenport Street, Rhinelander, or call 715-362-3444.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony, along with many activities throughout the year, is supported by Downtown Rhinelander, Inc. (DRI).
