The Rhinelander Community Foundation (RCF) recently approved the creation of the Community Emergency Response Fund, a new board-initiated fund established to help the Rhinelander area respond quickly and effectively to future community emergencies. According to an RCF press release, the fund was created to ensure the organization is prepared to assist during significant events affecting local residents, similar to the tornadoes and severe storms that impacted portions of Wisconsin earlier this year.
The non-endowed fund may be activated during emergencies such as natural disasters, severe weather events, public health emergencies, widespread housing displacement, major economic disruptions, or other large-scale crises as determined by the RCF Board of Directors, the release explains.
“The Community Emergency Response Fund reflects the Foundation’s commitment to serving our community when help is needed most,” said Janet Jamison, RCF President. “By establishing a dedicated emergency fund, we can provide timely assistance and meaningful support when challenges arise.”
Resources from the fund may be used to support emergency housing, temporary shelter, food and essential household needs, transportation assistance, childcare support, and grants distributed through qualified nonprofit partners serving the Rhinelander area.
As a board-initiated fund, the Community Emergency Response Fund provides an opportunity for businesses, organizations, and individuals who care about the community’s resilience to contribute toward future emergency response efforts. Donations will remain dedicated to helping address emergency situations affecting the Rhinelander area.
RCF will oversee the fund’s administration, activation, and grant distributions, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with community needs. Individuals and businesses interested in contributing to the Community Emergency Response Fund may contact the Rhinelander Community Foundation for additional information.
