Nicolet College is partnering with the Sokaogon Chippewa Community (SCC), and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards to create a new Broadband Service Technician Apprenticeship program.
The new program is a significant workforce development initiative designed to prepare skilled technicians for Wisconsin’s rapidly expanding broadband infrastructure projects, according to a Nicolet press release. The apprenticeship program supports statewide efforts to expand broadband access and aligns with the SCC’s historic investment in the largest off-reservation tribally owned and operated broadband network in Wisconsin history.
“Nicolet College is thrilled to be a part of this partnership,” said Nicolet College Vice President of Academic Affairs Bobbi Fields. “This program was created as a direct response to the needs of our community, and we’re proud to be a part of the solution.”
To celebrate the partnership, Nicolet hosted a special signing event in the Lakeside Center on Oct. 7. The Broadband Service Technician Apprenticeship program will begin its first cohort in the spring 2027.
