The Rhinelander High School boys soccer team earned their first point of the season with a 5-3 shootout victory over Medford on Thursday after the teams played to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime.
The Hodags went 1-2 in three games last week, suffering shutout losses at home to Mosinee and Shawano while picking up the conference point against Medford.
Rhinelander fell to Mosinee 8-0 Monday in a mercy-rule shortened game at home. Despite the lopsided score, the Hodags showed improvement by generating shots on goal, which had been a problem in previous contests.
After the breakthrough against Medford, Rhinelander was blanked again Saturday, falling to Shawano 7-0 at home.
The Hodags remain scoreless through seven games this season, having been outscored 37-0.
Rhinelander was scheduled to host Merrill on Tuesday and travel to Northland Pines on Thursday.
