Dave Russ, age 77, passed away in Appleton, WI, on July 12, , 2025 with his family by
his side after a battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Rhinelander, WI, Dave was a proud graduate of the RHS Class of
1966 and a lifelong supporter of all things Hodag. He continued his education at
Milwaukee Area Technical College, earning a degree in Mortuary Science in 1970.
Following graduation, Dave returned to his beloved hometown to begin his lifelong
career at Hildebrand Funeral Home. During his 47-year career, he provided
compassionate care and support to countless families.
Dave was married to his high school sweetheart, Sue, for 54 years. Together, they built
a life full of love, laughter, and family. He is survived by Susan and their two children,
Stacy (Steve) and Kyle (Amber), as well as two granddaughter, Ella and Alexis.
Dave’s devotion to his community was unwavering. He was a proud member of Kiwanis
Club, Chamber of Commerce, Hodag Athletic Booster Club, and First United Methodist
Church. Whether through his professional work, volunteer efforts, or support of local
athletics, Dave always found ways to give back and lift up those around him.
An avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting trips to South Dakota with his closest
friends. He was a fan of all sports-especially Hodag athletics, Green Bay Packers, and
Milwaukee Brewers and spent time coaching and supporting youth sports programs in
Rhinelander.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Leo Russ and his in-laws Al &
Florence Onson. His legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of his
family and the Rhinelander community he so dearly loved.
Visitation will be held on August 22, 2025 from 10-12 at Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home
in Rhinelander, WI, followed by a service at 12.
