Four Rhinelander residents have stepped up to fill the District 3 vacancy on the city council. The candidates will speak to a special meeting of the Common Council Monday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The candidates are Carrie Mikalauski, Lee Emmer, Matt Will and Scott Counter. Interested persons were given until noon Feb. 1 to submit a letter of interest to city hall.
By state law, the council could either hold a special election for District 3 residents or appoint a person to complete the unfinished term of Sherrie Belliveau, who resigned late last year. According to a release from city administrator Daniel Guild, the council has opted an appointment path that is expeditious and also allows citizen input.
Candidates will provide an opening statement Monday, answer several predetermined questions, if time permits answer questions from the general public, and end with a closing statement.
It is expected the common council will make a decision Monday, Feb. 11.
