Local student wins state speaking contest
Sugar Camp sixth grader Ellie Lurvey took first place at the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation and Environmental Awareness Speaking Contest Wednesday. Her speech was titled Craspedacusta Sowerbyi. Presenting the award is James VandenBrook, Executive Director, Wisconsin Land and Water (left) and Eric Paulsen, Co-Host, Discover Wisconsin (right).
Ellie placed first at the local competition Feb. 2 and also placed first at the area competition in Eagle River . She has been invited to give her speech at the April Oneida County Board meeting.
