Man facing 10 child porn charges freed on bond
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
A 34-year-old man charged in Oneida County Circuit Court with 10 felony counts of possessing child pornography has been freed on bond.
Daniel E. Schellinger, who lived in the Rhinelander area and now resides in Eagle River, had been held in custody since early last month on a $5,000 cash bond.
The bond was modified during his court appearance last week to $1,000 cash, which was posted Monday, and a $4,000 signature bond with the conditions he have no contact with individuals under age 18 – unless they are family members and then only supervised contact – no access to computers or the Internet, not consume intoxicants and stay out of taverns.
Schellinger, who is scheduled back in court July 29 for a preliminary hearing, is accused of having 10 images of child pornography on his cell phone. Each charge against him carries a maximum possible penalty of 15 years of initial confinement in prison, plus 10 years of extended supervision, and a $100,000 fine.
According to the court complaint, Schellinger was contacted May 5 in Minocqua by special agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation regarding an ongoing investigation into the possession of child pornography after law enforcement had obtained a search warrant.
Court records state Schellinger admitted viewing pornography on his cell phone and “often downloading it in bulk” from various websites. He also allegedly stated having seen child pornography in the images he downloaded and that he views child pornography because it is “something new.”
A report by special agent Robert W. Glaman contained in court records goes into explicit detail about the images of child pornography Schellinger is accused of possessing on his cell phone.
