Contested GOP primary set for Oneida County clerk
County incumbents unopposed in three other races
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
Following Wednesday’s deadline to file nomination papers to run for one of the four Oneida County offices up for election this fall, only one race will have more than one candidate on the ballot.
After incumbent county clerk Mary Bartelt decided not to seek re-election to another four-year term, two candidates have filed nomination papers to run on the Republican ballot. They include a current deputy county clerk, Kerri Ison of Monico, and Crescent town clerk Tracy Hartman, who is also the county sheriff’s wife.
Ison and Hartman will face each other in the Aug. 9 partisan primary. The winner advances to the Nov. 8 general election.
In the race for county treasurer, the incumbent Democrat, Kris Ostermann, will be the only candidate of any party to appear on the primary ballot.
The incumbent Republican register of deeds, Kyle J. Franson, is also the only candidate in that race to file nomination papers with the county clerk’s office.
In the race for district attorney, in which candidates are required to register with the state Government Accountability Board, only Republican incumbent Michael W. Schiek filed papers to run.
