Hodag golfers advance to sectionals; Logan Johnson ties for top score in regional

After closing out the regular season winning three tournaments in a row, the Rhinelander High School’s boys golf team has now qualified for the WIAA Division I Sectional at Eau Claire.
In Tuesday’s regional at the Stevens Point Country Club, the Hodags finished third to advance to the sectional as one of the top-four teams. Of the seven teams with at least four golfers to score in the standings, Stevens Point finished first at 310, followed by Wausau West (329) Rhinelander (335) and Wausau East (337), Antigo (341), Marshfield (345) and D.C. Everest (356). Merrill didn’t place in the team standings with only three golfers.
RHS senior Logan Johnson tied for the top score with Wausau East junior Matt Tuman with a two-under-par 74, a stroke ahead of Stevens Point junior Charlie Okray in third place.
Hodags freshman Nick Twite tied for 14th with an 85, while senior Alex Gaber and sophomore Zach Olds each carded an 88 as the other two players whose score counted toward the team total. RHS junior Matthew Reinthaler ended up with a 97.
RHS plays in the sectional set for May 31 at the Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire. The top-two teams and top-four individuals not on the top-two teams at the sectionals advance to the State Tournament on June 6-7 at University Ridge in Madison.
