Obituary: Jonathan C. Ottman
Jonathan C. Ottman, age 27 of Rhinelander, left this world much too early on Friday, December 25, 2015, at Ministry St. Mary’s Hospital in the company of his family and after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 26, 1988, in Rhinelander.
Jon attended schools in Rhinelander, graduating from RHS in 2006 where he participated in the band program playing the clarinet and sax. As a youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, an inductee of the Order of the Arrow, and served as a mentor to his brother Nate, as Nate went on to earn his Eagle Scout designation. Jon incorporated his passion for video games and love of collecting all things gaming into a career as an assistant manager at GameStop in Rhinelander. Wherever his travels took him, the trip usually ended with a stop at a game store and an addition to his extensive collection.
Jon loved to travel with friends and these adventures took him to many places across the country culminating with two all access press member visits to the E3 Convention in Los Angeles, CA where Jon wrote articles on the event for Playstation Universe online magazine. Time spent with family and friends was very important to Jon and although limited in the number of years, the precious memories of good times shared will remain close in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Jon is survived by his parents, Jennifer and Casey Sackett of Rhinelander; his father, Chadd (Linnea) Sandberg of Rhinelander; his brother, Nate Sackett of Rhinelander; sister, Cami Sandberg; step sister, Chloe; his girlfriend, Falon Skaleski of Green Bay; grandparents, Andy Sackett, Pamela Busche, and Cheryl and Joel Sandberg Sr.; many aunts and uncles including uncle and godfather, Richard Ottman; numerous cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cletus and Patricia Ottman; aunt, Diana Durre; and uncle, Dennis Sackett.
A service celebrating Jon’s life will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the Carlson Funeral Home(715-369-1414) with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences for Jon’s family may be directed to www.carlsonfh.com.
A friend shared this thought with Jennifer concerning Jon’s impact on the lives of the people around him, “I’ve seen how much your friends are hurting. It is because your life is an accomplishment, Jon. Being yourself brought so much joy to others.” So the next time you level up in your favorite video game, please fondly remember Jon.
