City trail proposal on the line
The recreational trail that MSA professional services was commissioned to do a feasibility study on in December will go before the Finance committee for approval March 3.
Only part of the trail is up for approval at this time, a stretch along the Pelican River with no private land easements. The second half of the trail, along the Wisconsin River, is still being coordinated with homeowners.
“It’s sink or swim time for this project,” said Alex Young, city council member in an email to the Star Journal. “We’re going to need support at city hall next week if we want to make it happen.”
Part of the trail proposal is to apply for a grant that would fund approximately half of the project. The grant deadline is due May 1st—part of the reason proponents of the trail are pushing to get it approved.
“We’re on a tight timeline,” Young said. “It’s now or never.”
The trail will go from the Chamber building to Shepard Park, and along the Pelican River to Pioneer Park. The master plan is to create a trail that connects all the city parks, giving easy access throughout town for people on foot or bike.
The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
